What is it with businesses?

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Here is one I just do not get: TheBubbler.com has free classified advertising for Wisconsin individuals and businesses – so why would more businesses not take advantage of it?

TheBubbler.com has a few very good realtors who take advantage of our free classifieds for Wisconsin. The gentleman from www.WisWaters.com is a great example. His photos are impeccable and the copy he writes for his ads is awesome. Another Wisconsin realtor, ClearView Realty (www.ClearViewRealty.com) also does a great job. [ClearView Realty is a client of OnYourMark, LLC, the company that publishes theBubbler.com].

What I do not understand is why we do not have dozens of realtors, and dozens of auto dealers, and dozens of tradespeople, and dozens of others using the free Wisconsin classifieds at theBubbler. Just open the daily paper – let alone the Sunday paper – and look at the ads…these same people who could be doing hundreds, if not thousands of ads for free at theBubbler are spending a fortune to publish the ads in the paper. I am not saying they should not post in the paper, but come on: all you have to do is put the same ad in theBubbler for free! Five minutes, not fifty bucks or more! And theBubbler is ranked higher than the online presence of the largest metro paper in Wisconsin, per Alexa.com!

If you have a business, come and put up your free classified ads along with over 1,600 others! If you know someone who owns a business, ask them why they insist on paying for all their advertising when the price is right at theBubbler.com – FREE Wisconsin classifieds!

Keith

Scammers are like waves on the ocean: countless & relentless

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

We just got hit with a wave of Nigerian-based and Israel-based scammers. We caught all or most of them that came through the regular classifieds response emails and private messages and I’m in the middle of cleaning them out of the classified ads and story comments, but they may also have sent you things directly if you put your email address in the text of your ad. So be very careful of the direct responses you get, esp. if it starts with “Dear Seller” or something similar. One that _looks_ vaguely legit (but isn’t) is someone using the name “Bobby Nelson” claiming to be selling parrots. That person is based in Kenya.

If you’re ever uncertain where a person is from who responds to your ads, get them to sign up on theBubbler.com and send you a Private Message, then use the Contact Us form to let us know what their user name is and that you suspect them and why. Unless they use a feature on the site (like PMs), we can’t get their IP address, but once they do, we can tell you if they’re actually from somewhere around here or somewhere overseas.
